weatherdrops is built to know as little about you as possible. Contact: hello@thesourcecodegirl.com.

Your location

If you allow it, weatherdrops uses your location to show the weather where you are. It only checks your location while you're using the app.

To get the weather, the app sends a location to Apple's weather service (Apple Weather). To name a place, like "Portland, OR," it sends the location to Apple Maps. Apple handles both under Apple's privacy policy. Your location is never sent to us.

You can turn location off at any time in your iPhone's Settings and pick places by name instead.

Places you search for

When you search for a place or ask weatherdrops about one, the place's name is sent to Apple Maps to find it. Your saved places are stored only on your phone.

Chatting with weatherdrops

Questions you ask weatherdrops are answered on your phone. Only a place named in a question is looked up with Apple Maps, as described above. Your questions and answers are kept for as long as you choose in Settings (from "When I close the app" to "Forever"), and you can clear them anytime. They're never sent to us.

Calendar and Reminders

If you have weatherdrops Plus and choose to connect them, the app reads your upcoming events and reminders on your phone to show the weather for each one. Only events and reminders with a location are shown. Their locations are sent to Apple's weather service to get the forecast there, and a location typed as text is looked up with Apple Maps. Titles, notes, and everything else stay on your phone and are never sent to us or anyone else.

You can turn off access at any time in your iPhone's Settings.

Waterfallr

If you also use Waterfallr, our waterfall app, and choose to share from it, weatherdrops reads your Waterfallr want-to-go list on your phone to show the weather for each waterfall. The waterfalls' locations go to Apple's weather service for their forecasts. You can stop sharing anytime in Waterfallr's Settings.

Radar and northern lights

Radar images come from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet (US) and Environment and Climate Change Canada. Northern lights data comes from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. The app asks these services for map images and data; it doesn't send them your location, only the area of the map you're looking at.

Subscriptions

weatherdrops Plus is sold through Apple. Apple handles your payment and tells the app whether you're subscribed. We never see your payment details.

What stays on your phone and in your iCloud

Your saved places (including Home and Work), settings, and chat history are stored on your phone and synced through your own iCloud account, so they're the same on all your devices. The most recent weather for each place stays only on your phone. We have no accounts and no servers that hold your information, and we can't see what's in your iCloud.

Deleting the app deletes what's on your phone. To remove the synced copy, turn off iCloud for weatherdrops in your iPhone's Settings.

Email

If you email us, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to answer you and improve the app.

When you report a bug from the app, the email also includes details to help fix it: the app version, your iPhone model and iOS version, your language, region, and units, whether Plus is on, which permissions you've allowed, whether you're signed in to iCloud, the name of the place you're viewing, when the weather last loaded, and the app's recent error messages, with any coordinates removed. You can read, change, or delete any of it before you send.

Children

The app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

What we don't do

No tracking. No analytics. No ads. We don't sell or share your information.

Changes

We may update this policy. If we make a significant change, the app will ask you to agree again.
